BEDFORDTREE CARE
BEDFORD / BEFORE YOU CUT

A tree in your garden.
Protection worth checking.

Find the official starting points for Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas.

Follow the official checks

  1. Find the property on council resources

Start with Bedford Borough Council’s protected-trees page. It links to its planning map, conservation-area maps and instructions for viewing records.

  2. Read the relevant records

Check the order documents and boundaries. If the result is unclear, ask the council to clarify before arranging work. This site cannot confirm a tree’s legal status.

  3. Confirm the permission route

A protected tree may need written consent. Conservation-area work usually needs six weeks’ notice, subject to exceptions. Ask the council which rules apply to the proposed work.

  4. Give the documents to your contractor

The agreed work should match any permission and conditions. Wildlife and other restrictions still need consideration.

A map search is a starting point, not a legal clearance. Do not assume a damaged or dead tree is automatically exempt from all requirements.
